About Cafelista: My story, my mission

My name is Colin, and if you’re here, it’s probably because you’re looking to better understand coffee, or to better choose your machine.

Cafelista started from a very simple need: I wanted to make a good espresso at home, without breaking the bank, without becoming a barista, and above all without getting taken in by a machine that promised everything… except a good coffee.

THE SPARK

When I arrived in Canada, I quickly realized that the local coffee didn’t suit me: too sweet, too diluted, without character. I started reading up, testing methods, looking for how to make a decent espresso… without a €1,500 machine. And that’s when I plunged into the fascinating world of coffee.

I read, tested, tasted, started over. And I discovered a captivating universe, but often confusing, opaque, poorly explained. So I created Cafelista.

WHAT I WANT WITH CAFELISTA

I’m not a competition barista; I’m an enthusiast who learned by testing, documenting, and sharing.
And above all, I believe in something very simple:

Drinking good coffee shouldn’t be complicated or expensive.

My goal is to help you choose the right machine, understand how it works, avoid pitfalls—and progress without headaches.

CAFELISTA, TODAY, IS:

  • 100% independent tests (measurements, tastings, technical analyses)
  • A YouTube channel in French and in English
  • Courses to help you master your machine
  • Free guides, useful comparisons, jargon-free articles
  • A community of enthusiasts (Facebook, comments, email…)
  • A validated, rigorous testing protocol for each machine (learn more here)

WHAT I STAND FOR

  • No ads, no sponsors, no disguised placements
  • Tests done at home, in my kitchen, not in a studio
  • Concrete measurements: temperature, noise, extraction, TDS
  • Real sensory analysis: I taste everything, I record everything
  • Honest feedback: when a machine disappoints, I say so
  • An accessible approach: beginner or expert, everyone has a place here

I also work with a passionate team: baristas, roasters, trainers, journalists, informed enthusiasts… all brought together by the desire to drink better and understand better.
