The Jura Z10 is one of the latest models from the famous Swiss brand. Specializing in top-of-the-range products for many years, this is yet another fine machine, combining technical improvements and boldness.
The possibility of making cold brews is a rare opportunity in the world of automatic coffee machines. Jura has put all its know-how into this model, but without forgetting its fundamentals: hot coffee in all its forms.
Is it worth tempting yourself with the Jura Z10? Let’s find out together.
Jura Z10, ace every time
The Jura Z10 is a bit like Roger Federer, the brand’s muse: it never misses a cup, just as he never missed a ball.
Jura, perfection by essence
Jura is an old appliance brand, dating back to 1931. In fact, it was not until the mid-80s that the Swiss brand decided to turn to the production of high-end coffee machines. It has succeeded in opening up this premium market both through the quality of the machine, thanks to a great deal of innovation, and through highly successful aesthetic choices.
It also owes its success to its partnership with Roger Federer back in 2006, which gave the brand international visibility. The company’s head office is also a museum retracing the history of the brand and coffee, and featuring Roger Federer’s sporting epic through an exhibition of some of his finest trophies.
Jura Z10, a diamond
This Jura Z10 has something of the precious stone about it. 2 of the machine’s 5 colors (Diamond White and Diamond Black) are direct references. But it’s more than just a pun on the name.
Quite simply, the Jura Z10s are magnificent, with their finely crafted aesthetics and perfectly balanced body colors, and with the water tank with its finely crafted lines, or the screen that fits perfectly into the front panel. The materials give a good impression of solidity, and it is.
Machine philosophy
Before describing the Jura Z10 in detail, it’s important to understand what it wants to be. Obviously, it wants to be a premium machine, one that is absolutely irreproachable in terms of coffee extraction, and to see the competition far behind it.
This is for Jura. For the specific Z10 model, the aim is to be the market benchmark for cold brew. It’s still a little-known drink in France. This involves extracting coffee under pressure and cold.
In practice, coffee can be extracted cold (room temperature) almost as well as hot, provided it is left to brew for several hours (usually 12 to 24 hours). And Jura reproduces this principle here, but reduces it to a few minutes, while still offering the same result. This Jura Z10 aims to be as versatile for cold drinks as it is for hot.

Jura Z10, the siren call
It’s hard to stand still in front of a Jura Z10 machine. Its quality, the brand’s reputation, its promise of cold brew, we inevitably want to know all about it.
Cold brew, the audacity of the Jura Z10
Cold brew coffee – see our article on cold brew coffee for more details – is cold-brewed coffee. The idea is to use an ambient temperature to allow the coffee’s aromas to express themselves, rather than using very hot water.
The slow, non-pressurized extraction process, which lasts between 12 and 24 hours, produces a beverage without bitterness or acidity, with a delicious, refreshing coffee taste.
Half a day to make coffee? Yes, in a manual cold brew version, and that’s where the Jura Z10 comes in. It extracts coffee with the same high quality, but in just a few minutes, thanks to pressure extraction – the very essence of a coffee machine.
Jura’s Cold Pressure System works by slowly injecting cold water at high pressure into the coffee cake. Unlike espresso, it takes a few minutes to get a cup of coffee.
The cold brew is then at your disposal to make whatever you wish: a nitro cold brew, a cocktail, a coffee at room temperature or chilled, the recipes are numerous. In fact, the machine offers a large number of them, and some of them are even compatible with milk drinks, for making café au lait frappés.
Not only has Jura mastered the cold brew and cold extraction technique perfectly, it also fits perfectly into the machine’s operation, giving it the same importance as the hot version of the coffee.
The Jura Z10 is not a grain machine with an option or a cold brew variant, it’s a dual-purpose machine.
Aside: for those of you who have already tasted and enjoyed a cold brew coffee, have you ever tried reheating it (slowly, too) to compare it to a classic coffee?
Jura technologies
Making a good espresso is a technique now mastered by the leading brands of bean-to-cup coffee machines.
Except that Jura makes better espresso than other brands. And if there’s an element of subjectivity in this sentence, there’s also a large element of objectivity. And that’s thanks to the brand’s many innovations.
The first of these is the P.R.G. or Product Recognising Grinder. The purpose of this part is to adapt the fineness of grind of the grain to the specialty required, in order to obtain the most suitable cake. Control is entirely electronic and therefore transparent to the user, who doesn’t have to worry about the rules of the mill, which does everything itself.
The 8th-generation percolation unit is a second highlight of this machine. The percolation unit is called the extraction unit. The special feature here is the so-called 3D diffusion of water in the wafer. In this way, water begins to flow into the coffee cake at different levels, enabling even more optimal extraction of flavours.
The machine is full of other industrial secrets, but the most important thing to remember is the final result: unrivalled quality in the mouth, and a sensation of having a much more intense liquid than with any other machine.
Screen, Wi-Fi and personalization
This Jura Z10 is unique in that it can be operated in two different ways. Then there’s the screen, an unmistakable front-end feature. It has a 4.3-inch diagonal and is touch-sensitive. The other solution is the Rotary Switch. This is a ring on the right-hand side of the top of the machine.
Broadly speaking, the screen is used for coffee preparation, while the Rotary Switch is used to navigate technical functions. Except that you can use the Rotary Switch to navigate and validate on the screen. In short, two solutions instead of one.
However, I’m going to make my first less enthusiastic comment: the interface could have been more modern. It consists mainly of pictograms, and for a machine of this level, more elaborate visuals, at the cost of a better-quality screen, would not have been a luxury.
The same applies to screen size, which in this case depends on the machine’s aesthetic appeal. But this is at the expense of user comfort. At the price of a Jura machine, we might have expected more intransigence.
When it comes to customizing the cup, since it can be accessed from the screen, Jura is to be applauded for letting loose and demonstrating its mastery of the art.
- Coffee strength: 10 levels, in 1 g increments from 5 to 16 g
- Percolation: 3 levels
- Hot water temperature: 3 levels
- Milk or milk foam temperature: 10 levels
Last but not least, the machine can also be controlled via the Jura J.O.E application, which gives you full control over the machine’s actions, as well as monitoring its maintenance, such as descaling and other measures. The Wi-Fi connection module is offered with this model, which is not the case with all of them.
The application, while allowing settings to be made on a tool you’re used to using, doesn’t add much interest.

What if there were a few limits to the JURA Z10?
Yes, even such a top-of-the-range machine can have a few peculiarities worth noting.
There is no active cup warmer. So, on a grain mill machine, there’s none that actually heats the cup. But why shouldn’t the brand’s elitist status allow it to surpass the others in this respect, by equipping its grain-grinder espresso machine with a real cup warmer?
For milk, Jura uses a cappuccinatore. The system is efficient and your milk drinks, even cold ones, arrive in the cup with a nice, creamy foam. Yes, but it’s still not a very well-integrated solution.
It’s not Jura’s fault, but the very principle of the hose that connects to the coffee nozzle. I find it less elegant than a beautiful decanter, like the Delonghi.
What’s a real shame, however, is that the Jura Z10 only serves one milk drink at a time. Some machines that are far inferior in terms of price positioning manage to do this, so why not this model?
Last but not least, the Z10 lacks a double grain bin. Of course, hardly any models offer it. But Jura is expected to innovate, and this model would be more than justified in having its own espresso bean, for example, and another bean more suited to cold brew.
But on the whole, I readily admit that I’m looking for the details to finally demonstrate just how exceptional the machine is.
Who is this Jura Z10 for?
Let’s not pretend: we’re talking about a machine that can’t speak to all audiences because of its price.
But Jura is a brand you choose with full knowledge of the facts. Its audience, for domestic use, will be those who are already cold brew enthusiasts, or who have every reason to become so.
As excellent as this Jura Z10 is, it doesn’t revolutionize hot coffee compared to other references from the same brand with the same high standards. Its real added value lies in the cold brew. And if this innovation doesn’t interest you, you’ll have to move on to the Jura Z8, for example, if you want to stay in the very (very) high-end segment.
